Teacher Evaluation

The Teacher Evaluation System is a method to provide feedback to teachers to improve their instruction and to identify strengths that can be used as models throughout Merchantville School. This process allows teachers and administrators to have a dialogue about instruction and the best ways to assist students in the classroom.

Merchantville School uses the Danielson Framework for Teaching as a rubric. It is designed to give teachers feedback in four specific domains: Planning & Preparation, The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. Teachers are given specific feedback on components in each of the domains based on a rubric developed by the Danielson Group: The ratings are Ineffective, Partially Effective, Effective or Highly Effective. The policy for teacher evaluations is attached below. It meets the criteria set by the New Jersey Department of Education and the NJACHIEVE Act. All teachers receive three observations each year, some announced and some unannounced. In all situations, the goal is to foster a dialogue of growth with the teachers.
